Years Police Experience
Attorney Stephen T Bowling
Steve served in the United States Navy from 1997 to 2007. He spent five years on the USS Stout (DDG 55), an Arleigh Burke Guided Missile Destroyer, as a Technician and Operator of the Tomahawk Missile System. His collateral duties included Duty Master-at-Arms (MA), Duty Force Protection Officer, Duty Combat Systems Officer, and many others. After life on the ship, Steve attended the U.S. Navy’s Military Police School before reporting to Naval Station Ingleside. At Naval Station Ingleside, Steve served as a Patrolman before being promoted to Field Training Officer, Assistant Watch Commander and, finally, Watch Commander.Steve credits his time as a military police officer with leading him into the practice of law. Specifically, an incident that occurred one weekend toward the end of his three year assignment, which led to Steve’s arrest in Corpus Christi, Texas. Even though the case was later dismissed, the mere fact that he was arrested led to professional consequences. Accordingly, Steve is acutely aware of the areas in which police lack training, where they make mistakes, and how to demonstrate to Juries that, although an arrest had been made, inadequate training and methods may cause an innocent person to be found guilty.
Austin Jail Release
To get out of jail fast, you’ll need to secure a personal bond or be released on your own “Own Recognizance”. We can often make that happen immediately.
During law school, Steve was a member of the University of New Hampshire Criminal Clinic. The Criminal Clinic allowed students to represent clients facing misdemeanor and felony charges in New Hampshire. As a student attorney, Steve represented clients under the Honorable Charles S. Temple whom is now a New Hampshire Superior Court Judge. Steve handled cases ranging from Aggravated assault with a Deadly Weapon to Driving While Intoxicated. During Steve’s final semester, he worked for the Law Office of Lanham Blackwell in Bangor, Maine, where he handled a variety of cases ranging from Personal Injury and Mass Torts to Criminal Law matters. After graduating law school, Steve followed his dream of starting his own firm. In November of 2013, he opened the doors as a sole practitioner but quickly grew to utilize a team approach to defending those accused of crimes. Steve has represented hundreds of clients ranging from first offense DWI cases to sixth offense DWI cases. Steve primarily focuses on DWI cases because it is one of the only offenses that is based on an officer’s opinion. Steve thoroughly believes that the standardized field sobriety tests are set up for the person to fail, and inadequate lab standards frequently lead to results that could be considered invalid.
